Distractions are requiring more effort. He's close. It's been almost three years since I held him and I still miss that tiny boy.

Anybody watching Sister Wives? I think I saw every episode last weekend. It's such a different lifestyle than I have ever personally witnessed that I had some judgments but after watching hours of it, I like that family. They are all very open and will express hurt feelings but there also seems to be little "game" playing - they will apologize quickly after saying something that may have inadvertently caused pain. It's interesting to see how the wives interact and I love the idea of a large, close-knit family. Now, I'm still bitter and not a fan of marriage but being able to watch a show about lots of marriage, where there are also tons of kids, is a sign of progress.
A few weeks ago I watched Juno on TV, after avoiding it since it's release. It was better than I thought it would be, but not in the ways I expected. I thought the teenagers were more annoying than funny and I didn't like the soundtrack at all (it was very popular though; I'm comfortable with having bad taste in music). To avoid spoilers I can't say what I liked about the movie but if you have seen it you may have figured it out - families don't always occur as expected or planned but families that are well fought for, and are built under conditions that are not considered "ideal" can be stunningly beautiful.
This resonate with me because I did everything "right" in terms of a long, seemingly stable, marriage and a house and what not, but the baby still died and then everything fell apart. Aiming for what is commonly viewed as the best way to go about things is not the only way to find happiness and fulfillment. I have to believe that alternative ways are also good.

Rambling. I'm so tired I'm not even going to edit this. So, polygamy ... what do you think?

I watched the finale of Sister Wives and the special. I for one am dead set against Polygamy. I think it's a bit wackadoodle (weird word I know LOL)! I think it's a bit crazy that he can have multiple wives they can only have one husband. Strange man made idea for sure. As for Juno I love that movie - thought the soundtrack was odd myself - not a huge fan of it - I know what you mean about why you liked it :)
I think polyamory is a better term, because that would include women having multiple partners as well. I actually have an open marriage, so my views are definitely different than most.
And I ADORE Juno, best of all the soundtrack! LOL.
I agree Kakunaa, the idea of men having multiple partners while women are expected to stay faithful to a single man does not sit comfortably with me. Right now, I am happy with SnuggleBunny and me, but it's sexist to have different "rules" for men and women.
I personally would not want that life style but, as long as it involves ONLY consenting adults, I have no problem with men or women choosing to have multiple spouses.
i've never seen sister wives, but it's so interesting that polygamy came up here because i have sort of randomly been thinking about it lately.
i absolutely adore my hubs but it's just something i've been chewing on. in some ways it feels like it would be more natural. (both partners, of course, not just the man--urgh.)
interesting!
by the way, i loved juno too. thought the characters (of the adults) were so very real.
Interesting! I am a very open minded person and just ASSumed I was the only one who felt this way about the show. I'm ALL for polyamory, but not a fan of polygamy. If it works for them, which it seems as if it is, then more power to them! I just don't think its fair that me wanting more then one man to adore and cook for me, is seen as "dirty". I think its INGENIOUS!
Holding you close to my heart as the three year mark closes on. I know how difficult those days are. Well, kind of. My mom's birthday was on Tuesday and all I did was cry all day long. It was a sad day, but allowing myself to do that was the best thing I could've done. I wish you a peaceful day full of all the love you have for your beautiful little boy.
*HUGS*
Polyamory, polygamy...whatever. Neither bother me and neither strike my fancy. I get concerned about kids being raised in any very closed society like the fundamentalist LDS. The term "brain-washing" comes to mind as does 15 year-old "brides." But I admittedly don't know much about the FLDS so I could be totally wrong.
I had some same feelings about Sister Wives. My main issues with polygamy is that it is generally only the men who have multiple wives, and multiple sexual partners. If everyone is consenting, though, have at it.
I saw Juno in the theater and it depressed me, but I was hoping to get pregnant then, and so, yeah.
Hello lovely!
Just spent the morning reading over your blog. I don't know why I've not been getting your posts in my reader. Hmm.
You seem to be in a floating space. I know that place well. :) As for Sister Wives. I'll have to google that! After watching Big Love (probably not the best polygamy example but meh) I joked with a friend at how it would suit me to have a sister wife, that way I could still have babies around. Sad eh?
Much love xoxox
three years... (((hugs)))
still avoiding Juno. Maybe someday.
Don't have cable... so haven't seen show.
And one guy is enough to drive me crazy...
